Little Pond on the Prairie

....where the little adventures mean the most!

Nothing Exciting- Just Enjoying for our Family

Monday, October 17, 2005

Today is one of those days that would be better off spent at home. I'm in the mood to organize! Although we had a relaxing weekend. I feel like I failed to accomplish anything productive, besides cooking dinner, picking up the house and doing a load or two of laundry. Those are just the basics! And it never fails on Monday mornings I look back at the things that I would have like to have done. I'm sure I'm not the only one with the Monday morning feeling!

It was a nice weekend though. On Saturday, DS8 wrapped up his baseball season with a 2nd place finish in the tournament. We bought our pumpkins and put them on the display, although we didn't get to paint them, yet. DS13 had a friend spend the night so all the kids had a bonfire and roasted marshmallows. We grilled hotdogs and hamburgers. Sunday began with a big breakfast (late in the morning….) and then the kids were back outside playing football, riding the four wheeler, etc. DF and I enjoyed some quiet time- although depressing- trying to root on our Cardinals. They just don't seem to have it together when they need to. It is always a sad time when we have to return DD10 and DS8 to their mom on Sunday evenings. Luckily I had enough to keep me busy. DS13 and I went to a sports meeting for parents at the school. Then, when we got home, I fixed my homemade chicken noodle soup and pasta salad for our Boss's Day luncheon. We decided on a soup and salad theme. We'll have all different kinds of soups and chili's. Yes, Fall is finally here.

And then there is the swift kick and tugging on my belly to remind me of the new life that we have to look forward to. I think of how this weekend would have been if she were on the outside of our world. And suddenly, I'm very tired again….

Goodbye Mr. Scarecrow

Friday, October 14, 2005

Today, we are in mourning for Mr. Scarecrow. He was such a kind and quiet kind of fellow. He never really asked for much out of life. Just a nice bale of straw to sit on, some pretty mums surrounding him, a big bright pumpkin to keep him from the dark, and some cornstalks with orange twinkle lights flickering like the blaze of a warm bonfire. All too soon, this was taken away from him as he was ripped from his surroundings without notice. The beast came out of nowhere! Snarling. Growling. In all of 10 minutes the scarecrow's life had ended. An arm here……. Part of a leg over there...... Stuffing EVERYWHERE! As I turned to prepare myself for the attacker, I saw him sitting there, in the middle of the yard. He seemed to be out of breath, his tail wagging, basking in his accomplishment. As if he was saying, "Look Mom! I got him!" Yes, Toby, our yellow lab, KILLED our scarecrow yesterday!

Picture Day

Wednesday, October 12, 2005

OK, This should be an excused absence from work: PICTURE DAY MORNING! I just hung up the phone with DS13. Even though we discussed the shirt to be worn; we discussed how the hair would be fixed; now, there seems to be a change in plans! The t-shirt picked to go under the collared shirt isn't the color he wants! It could be that it doesn't match his newly highlighted hair. Yes, I did that myself. It turn out so well the first time I did it. It's not bad this time, just a little more than highlighted. But, he wanted it. I'm letting him express himself….. right? Just because I may be sending out copies of last year's school pictures of him in this year's Christmas cards... I could blame that on "pregnancy brain" which seems to have zapped most of my memory and a large chunk of my common sense! I'm 45 minutes away from him! I can't see in his closet to pick out another shirt- I have to trust his judgment on what "matches"! Picture day will be like opening his report card; with one eye opened, ready to quickly shove it back in the envelope!

St. Louis Cardinals

Tuesday, October 11, 2005

Go Cardinals! My prediction is………… They're gonna win it all this year. I think they have some rough teams to get by. I would have much rather played Atlanta in the NLCS than Houston. You can never count Houston as down, especially if Clements has it together. I am rooting for the (which city?) Angels now. The White Sox would be like playing the Red Sox last year. They were such underdogs. Even for me, if the Cards couldn't win it- I'm glad Boston did. This year it is a great feeling to already know that there's no way that the Yankees can be in the WS this year!

So, Come on, Cardinals! 8 More wins for the Greatest Baseball Town in the USA!

About Me: The Condensed Version

Currently, I am 37 years old. Considering this is the first description that came to my mind, it is obviously the one that bothers me the most! I am expecting the birth of my second child in early December although a surprise Thanksgiving delivery would be more than welcome. I have a 13 year old son (your condolences are greatly appreciated). Each birthday he counts down the years until he gets his license. Each year on his birthday, I count my blessings that I am not in prison for murder. We live with my wonderful fiancé. He very recently turned 37 also- ending my 3 month sentence of being "older" that him. After learning from experience that NOTHING is perfect, he is the closest I could ever to be to heaven on earth. With that said, yes, there are still days that I count my blessing that I am not in prison for murder. He is the father of a 10 year old daughter and an 8 year old son from a previous marriage. All of our children are healthy, good students, athletic and for the most part, well behaved. I will be happy to have a little one again. I'll be glad to have someone think that I'm all knowing and can fix anything. (Can you tell I have a teenage son?) Our 4th child is due December 5th. We had a name picked out for a boy. That seemed rather easy. Therefore, we are having a baby girl and while I'm so excited and can't wait for her arrival- we have yet to pick out her name. We have a list of about 20 names that we like with several combinations. Our goal is to have it down to a couple and then decide when she is born. However, this is really starting to weigh heavily on me as I had a dream that we celebrated her 1st birthday with "Happy Birthday Baby Girl" on her cake!

I work full time as an Executive Secretary for a Manufacturing company. I have been with the company for 9 years. Although there is a 40 mile one way commute, I am off most of the summer, so it all balances out.

Our summers are filled with baseball and softball games. This year my son also played on an organized football team, getting ready for Freshman ball next year! (Cringe!) They are now all starting basketball practice, which will take us right into baseball season next spring!

Just to make this simple, I will use the following, basic, abbreviations:

DF = Dear Fiancé
DS13 = My Handsome 1st born Son
DD10 = My Beautiful Step-Daughter
DS8 = My Crazy Step-Son
DD = My Highly Anticipated Baby Girl, due Dec. 5th

About The Title: Little Pond on the Prairie

Monday, October 10, 2005

The "Little Pond on the Prairie" is the setting for my life. Obviously some chapters take place at work, school, sporting venues, etc. The "Little Pond on the Prairie" has a nice calming visual image- while leaving room for improvement. Our Little (½ acre) Pond has plans to improve into a 3 acre lake. Our Prairie has dreams to become a Wooded area with some shade protecting it's grassy cover from the 100 degree summers. Our trailer, (Adding that into the title seemed to take something away from that calming visual image so I left it out) Anyway, our trailer has moving plans, but not to leave us behind in the elements. It has plans to become a beautiful 3000 square foot establishment which will provide ample room to hold all the love, laughter, and everyday life to make it into a home for a Mom, a Dad and 4 wonderful children. In the mean time our place is content in providing a peaceful setting for batting practice, 4-wheeler riding, trampoline jumping, fishing, swimming, bon-fires, lawn-chair relaxing, etc. Now, if it would just mow itself……….

Newbie Blogger

In a perfect world I would be creating this Blog to update daily. Just to add my bright and intelligent thoughts and comments to somewhere out in the "on-line" universe. Maybe just as a little therapy for myself; a place to keep my thoughts in order!

Obviously- This is not a perfect world- not even close!

Instead it will probably be a place where I manage to vent a few lines in between tasks at work when I'm not even supposed to be on the internet for personal usage! It will be somewhere I go to see if I mentioned the important meeting that I have on a certain day and can't remember what the heck that it was!

Organization has always been one of the occasional hobbies that I dabble in when there's time. From being a teenager that was constantly rearranging her room to a secretary moving the office furniture around to achieve greater efficiency. I am now beginning to think of Organization as either a "4-letter" word or a job that I have been assigned to complete to maintain my own sanity.

My life is well on the way to what I have always wanted. Just instead of doing things in order, I have managed to jump from A to G to get to B then back to H to get to C. However, I 'm sure I'm not the only one who has ever taken this jumbled route!

So I'm asking for a little good luck to make this site everything I want or would like it to be- Plus maybe a little everyday entertainment for someone out in the "on-line" universe.
